The Belgium 2 Euro Coin 2026 “50 Years of the National Geographic Institute and 200 Years of the Royal Observatory of Belgium” is issued in Reverse Proof quality and comes in its original case. The issue brings together two important Belgian scientific institutions – the National Geographic Institute, responsible for mapping and geographical data, and the Royal Observatory of Belgium, a major centre for astronomical and geophysical research.
The coin design combines geography and astronomy, featuring a child standing on a map and looking towards the universe, symbolically connecting the exploration of Earth with the study of space. The Reverse Proof version features a polished central area contrasted with a frosted background, creating the opposite visual effect of a traditional Proof finish.
